Success and controversies go hand in hand. Now that Blessy and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s The Goat Life is a huge success in Malayalam, the controversies are crawling out of the woodwork.

Prithviraj Sukumaran on The Goat Life, “We never shot the intimate scene with the goat”

Prithviraj Sukumaran on The Goat Life, “We never shot the intimate scene with the goat”

The one that gets one’s goat (pun intended) has to do with a sequence showing the isolated and disoriented Najeeb making love with a goat. The incident is recorded in the novel version of Najeeb’s story by Benyamin who, at a public promotional event for the film, claimed the eyebrow-raising scene of bestiality was shot for the film.

However, when this writer asked Prithviraj if such a scene had actually been shot his reply was, “Never shot it, Sir. It was the director’s call that the character-arc of his Najeeb wouldn’t do that.”

Speaking about his experience of embodying the character of Najeeb, Prithviraj said, “In 2008, when Blessy first told me about doing this movie, my first thought was, how do I approach this character? Do I come down and talk to you about who you really are, or do I try understanding the character Najeeb that Mr. Benyamin wrote, or the Najeeb that Mr. Blessy has in his mind, do I try to understand him? This was the confusion I had. Finally, Mr. Blessy and I decided that, from the novel Aadujeevitham, and the Najeeb that Mr. Blessy visualised, the Najeeb that I visualise in my mind should be the one I play in the movie, so you’ll see that Najeeb in the movie.”

Added Resul Pookutty who is the sound designer of The Goat Life, “There is a scene in the book where Najeeb makes love to the goat…. All these crazy people were waiting to see that scene in the film. But director Blessy avoided that rather uncomfortable moment in the film adaptation… So that’s only loose talk that’s going around, a fantasy being spread by kinky basket cases.”

CBFC renames Annu Kapoor-starrer Hum Do Hamare Baarah to Hamare Baarah; asks makers to delete or replace SHOCKING, controversial dialogues : Bollywood News

0

[ad_1]

Last month, we reported the shocking news that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) reportedly asked the makers of the Bhojpuri film Rang De Basanti to change the title of the film. The makers refused and tried their best to persuade the CBFC’s team to pass their film without a title change. When their plea fell on deaf ears, they knocked on the doors of the Bombay High Court. The court asked the CBFC’s Revising Committee (RC) to view the film. The RC passed the film without asking the makers to change the title. At the same time, another film was also asked to go for a title change. In this case, the makers accepted the recommendation and also the other cuts asked by the CBFC.

CBFC renames Annu Kapoor-starrer Hum Do Hamare Baarah to Hamare Baarah; asks makers to delete or replace SHOCKING, controversial dialogues

The film in question is Hum Do Hamare Baarah and it’s rechristened as Hamare Baarah, starring Annu Kapoor and Ashwini Kalsekar. Reportedly, it is the story of a man with multiple wives and several children. As per sources, the film was first viewed by the Examining Committee and later by the RC. The RC gave a long list of modifications as they felt that the movie could hurt religious sentiments.

In all, the makers of Hamare Baarah were asked to make 11 changes. To begin with, the RC suggested that the title should be changed and that it should be ‘women-centric’. They were told to insert a disclaimer and to give references to CBFC about dialogues on ‘women marriage’ in the Quran and Islamic Culture.

The CBFC asked to replace the words ‘Bazaaru Aurat’ and to replace ‘Islam’ with ‘mazhab’. The dialogue uttered by a Maulana in the film, ‘Apni Kheti Karo …. Jyada Se Jyada Musalmaan Paida Karo’, was deleted. Another controversial dialogue that was deleted was ‘Gaay Ka Moot Pilayenge Aur Hindu Banayenge’. The word ‘f***ing’ was muted and in the dialogue ‘Maa Ko Allah Se Upar Darja Diya Hai’, ‘Allah’ was muted.

Finally, the poster of a political leader was blurred while the anti-smoking static disclaimer was added in the smoking scenes.

Once these changes were made, the makers of Hamare Baarah were granted a U/A certificate on April 3, 2024. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 148 minutes, that is, 2 hours and 28 minutes.

Hamare Baarah is expected to be released in cinemas soon. Yesterday, on the occasion of Eid, the makers released the first song of the film ‘Mere Mustafa’. It is composed as well as sung by none other than Annu Kapoor.

Apart from Annu Kapoor and Ashwini Kalsekar, Hamare Baarah also stars Parth Samthaan, Manoj Joshi, Abhimanyu Singh, Paritosh Tripathi and Rahul Bagga. It is directed by Kamal Chandra.

BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN suffers due to a weak script and poor dialogues

0

[ad_1]

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Review {2.5/5} & Review Rating

Star Cast: Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan

Director: Ali Abbas Zafar

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Synopsis:
BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN is the story of two patriotic officers. The Indian army is transporting a package to a secure facility through the Northern Himalayan Road. Suddenly, they get attacked and defeated under the leadership of Kabir (Prithviraj Sukumaran), who’s hiding his identity by wearing a mask. He takes the package and records a video, stating that India is now in deep trouble. On the other hand, Captain Misha (Manushi Chhillar) reaches Shanghai, China after a source, Chang (Kinnar Boruah), asks her to meet him. Chang warns her that a friend-turned-foe of India is out to exact revenge. Before he can say any further, he is killed by a masked man. Misha attacks him and is shocked to see that the masked goon has self-healing powers. She reports about it to Colonel Adil Shekhar Azad (Ronit Roy). He decides to take the help of two sacked officers to fight Kabir – Firoz aka Freddy (Akshay Kumar) and Rakesh aka Rocky (Tiger Shroff). The package is tracked to London. The trio reach the UK capital where a tech expert, Pam (Alaya F) joins them. They successfully locate the package and devise a plan. Kabir, however, is monitoring their moves and has a different agenda in his mind. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Story Review:
Ali Abbas Zafar’s story is novel. Ali Abbas Zafar and Aditya Basu’s screenplay is great in a few scenes but in most places, the goings-on are difficult to digest. The angle of cloning and Iron Dome is interesting but hasn’t been utilized well in the script. Suraj Gianani and Ali Abbas Zafar’s dialogues are funny only in select places. The one-liners mouthed by Tiger and Alaya in several scenes are cringeworthy.

Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction is fine. There’s no doubt that his filmmaking skills are exemplary and he tries his best to rise above the script. He also mounts the film on a lavish scale and ensures that it looks like a grand entertainer. Though the film is 158 minutes long, it never gets boring. Moreover, it’s impressive how he cuts the villain entry scene with the madness that occurs in Shanghai. It makes for an unexpected watch. Another unpredictable moment is during the intermission. The entry of the heroes is lengthy but gives viewers their money’s worth.

On the flipside, the writing is such that one is never in awe of the lead characters. Hence, one doesn’t root for them as much as the makers must have intended. A few developments are bewildering. For instance, Freddy knew about the mission and was ready to be a part of the operation. Yet, he feigned ignorance and declined initially. Adil Shekhar Azad meets Kabir and there seems to be some sort of arrangement between them. This is never explained. The biggest problem, however, is the reason for Kabir to turn against India. The manner in which the Indian forces are happy with the ‘Soldier X’ programme and then express reservations when Kabir explains the USP is silly. Moviegoers would not be able to understand this aspect or why Freddy breaks his engagement and that’s not good since the revenge angle rests on this important sequence. The finale is just okay.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan: Official Trailer | Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Performances:
Akshay Kumar is decent and could have done better. However, he looks quite fit and scores in the action scenes. Tiger Shroff is let down by the dialogues and his performance leaves a lot to be desired. He is superb, though, while performing the dangerous stunts. Prithviraj Sukumaran rocks the show and is apt for the part. Manushi Chhillar looks superb and impresses in the role of a no-nonsense officer. Alaya F is over the top. Sonakshi Sinha (Priya) is lovely in a supporting role. Ronit Roy is dependable. Kinnar Boruah, Manish Chaudhari (Karan Shergill), Bijay Anand (Jamaluddin), Pawan Chopra (Defence Secretary) and Khalid Siddiqui (Ambassador) don’t get much scope.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan music and other technical aspects:
Vishal Mishra’s music is not of chartbuster variety. The title track doesn’t register. ‘Mast Malang Jhoom’ is okay while ‘Wallah Habibi’ works only because it has a catchy theme. All three songs, however, are very well shot. Julius Packiam’s background score has a cinematic feel.

Marcin Laskawiec’s cinematography adds to the grandeur. Craige Macrae and Parvez Shaikh’s action is entertaining and is not disturbing. Anisha Jain and Malvika Bajaj’s costumes are stylish but don’t go overboard, considering that the protagonists play army officers. Rajnish Hedao, Snigdha Basu and Sumit Basu’s production design is appealing. Redefine, Number9 VFX and Prime Focus’ VFX is appropriate. Steven Bernard’s editing is fine but the fight before the interval is quite stretched and should have been shortened.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan Movie Conclusion:
On the whole, BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN suffers due to a weak script and poor dialogues, however, it is a decent watch for the fans of Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and those who patronize action movies.

Taapsee Pannu BREAKS silence on getting married to Mathias Boe; says she has no plans to release wedding photos: “I just didn’t want to make it a public affair, because then I’ll start getting worried about how it is perceived” : Bollywood News

[ad_1]

On the day of Holi, March 25, the industry and Bollywood fans got a pleasant surprise as news came in that Taapsee Pannu had got married to her long-time beau, Mathias Boe. The intimate wedding ceremony took place in Udaipur on March 22. There was no confirmation on it but a few days later, a leaked video emerged on the internet showing Taapsee, dressed in a traditional red salwar suit, dancing her way towards the waiting groom, Mathias, who stands adorned in an ivory sherwani. Now, Taapsee Pannu has finally opened up, albeit briefly, about her wedding and why she decided to keep it a well-guarded secret.

Taapsee Pannu BREAKS silence on getting married to Mathias Boe; says she has no plans to release wedding photos: “I just didn’t want to make it a public affair, because then I’ll start getting worried about how it is perceived”

Taapsee Pannu BREAKS silence on getting married to Mathias Boe; says she has no plans to release wedding photos: “I just didn’t want to make it a public affair, because then I’ll start getting worried about how it is perceived”

Taapsee Pannu and sister gave an in-depth interview to HT City on the occasion of National Sibling Day today, that is, April 10. At one point, Taapsee was asked if she’d make an official announcement of her wedding or release wedding photos. Taapsee answered that she might not do it as she was worried about how it would be received.

Taapsee Pannu said, “I’m not sure if I want to open my personal life to the kind of scrutiny that happens. I’ve signed up for this, not my partner or the people who were at the wedding. That’s why I’ve kept it to myself. My intention was never to keep it a secret; I just didn’t want to make it a public affair, because then I’ll start getting worried about how it is perceived. That’s why I have no plans for a release of any kind and don’t think I’m mentally prepared for that right now. I knew people who were there, they wanted to be there for me and were not present to judge, that’s why I was pretty relaxed.”

Shagun Pannu, meanwhile, was asked whether Taapsee was a ‘bridezilla’ or a ‘bridechilla’ on her big day. Shagun revealed, “Taapsee wasn’t a bridezilla at all. She left everything to me in terms of the wedding planning. She just wanted to have a good time. The gathering was also limited, so Taapsee didn’t have to worry about anything.”

MAIDAAN is one of the finest sports-based films of Bollywood

0

[ad_1]

Maidaan Review {4.0/5} & Review Rating

Star Cast: Ajay Devgn, Priyamani, Gajraj Rao

Maidaan

Director: Amit R Sharma

Maidaan Movie Synopsis:
MAIDAAN is the story of an exemplary coach. The year is 1952. During the Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland, India horribly loses a match against Yugoslavia by 10-1. Roy Choudhry (Gajraj Rao), a prominent sports journalist and the editor of The Indian Reginald, slams the Indian football team. The Football Federation of India, Kolkata, summons the team coach S A Rahim (Ajay Devgn), and asks for an explanation. Rahim reasons that the players didn’t even have proper shoes. He also insisted that he needs the freedom to choose players. The Federation head Anjan (Baharul Islam) agrees with Rahim but one of the core committee members, Shubhankar (Rudranil Ghosh), asks him to enlist more Bengali players. Rahim declines the request and insists that since it’s the Indian team, he’d get players from all over India based on merit. He then goes on a tour of the country to find the best footballers. He finally makes a fresh team, comprising Trilok Singh (Manandeep Singh), Arko Das (Prashanto Sinha), Jarnail Singh (Davinder Singh), Peter Thangraj (Tejas Ravishankar), Fortunato Franco (Madhur Mittal), Pradyut Burman (Tanmay Bhattacharjee), Arun Ghosh (Aaman Munshi), D Ethiraj (Raphael Jose), Tulsidas Balaram (Sushant Waydande), Chuni Goswami (Amartya Ray), Ram Bahadur (Amandeep Thakur), P K Banerjee (Chaitanya Sharma), Aryann Bhowmik (Neville Dsouza) and others. Rahim trains them well and in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and the 1960 Rome Olympics, they put up an impressive game. But since they face a loss, the Federation yet again pulls up Rahim. On the other hand, Roy Choudhry, who has a personal grudge against Rahim, is spreading his agenda against him and the Indian team. If that’s not enough, Rahim faces a huge personal setback at this hour. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

Maidaan Movie Story Review:
Saiwyn Quadras, Akash Chawla and Arunava Joy Sengupta’s story is fascinating and what works is that not many people are aware of this chapter of history. Saiwyn Quadras’s screenplay (additional screenplay by Aman Rai, Atul Shahi, and Amit R Sharma) is highly effective and boasts of some gripping scenes, not just on the field but also off the field. The first half, however, could have been better. Ritesh Shah’s dialogues (additional dialogues by Siddhant Mago) are powerful.

Amit R Sharma’s direction is supreme. It’s not easy to pull off a sports film especially when films like LAGAAN [2011], CHAK DE INDIA [2017], ’83 [2021] etc have set a benchmark and are etched in people’s minds. But Amit succeeds and how. He peppers the football scenes with a lot of nail-biting and thrilling moments. What also works is the politics faced by Rahim and how he tides over it. One might argue that the villain track seems a bit far-fetched but it works beautifully, especially when Rahim hits back at them in multiple places. The personal tragedy of Rahim is another track that contributes a lot to the film, emotionally. Apart from these factors, the innovative depiction of the text and opening credits are also impressive.

On the flipside, the first half is a bit weak and the length at this hour could have been shorter. The initial football matches don’t leave the desired impact and the same goes for the football training sequence before the intermission. Also, a few scenes and tournaments are not shown fully. For example, viewers get to see the first South Korea vs India match only till half-time. Of course, in the long run, it makes sense but at that moment, one gets a feeling that the makers are trying to rush through the narrative.

MAIDAAN starts with a strong and moving scene, depicting how the Indian team faces a humiliating defeat due to a lack of shoes. The entry sequence of Tulsidas Balaram of Secunderabad is sweet. Two scenes that stand out in the first half are Rahim blasting Roy Choudhry during their first meeting and Rahim’s reply to the Australian coach over the re-match. The scene where the crowd in Rome starts chanting ‘Well Played India’ is lovely. The intermission point is significant. Post-interval, the scene where Saira (Priyamani) tells Rahim to get back to football is superb. Rahim being re-elected as the sports coach is both moving and clapworthy. The same goes for the scene when Rahim returns after meeting the finance minister Morarji Desai (Zaheer Mirza). However, the film goes on a high during the 1962 Jakarta Games sequence. The last 50-55 minutes is highly captivating and takes the film to another level. The real-life players are shown in the end and it’s truly a riveting moment.

Maidaan Trailer | Ajay Devgn | Amit Sharma | Boney K | A.R. Rahman | Fresh Lime Films

Maidaan Movie Performances:
Ajay Devgn is terrific, to say the least. He has given several outstanding performances but the one in MAIDAAN will go down as one of his greatest acts. His character goes through a lot and the way he has essayed it is seen to be believed. Priyamani lends able support. Gajraj Rao and Rudranil Ghosh are superb as the antagonists while Baharul Islam is adorable. Istayak Khan (assistant coach Hari) is passable. Zaheer Mirza is okay. Paul Spurrier (Australian coach) is memorable. From the players, the ones that leave a mark are Davinder Singh, Tejas Ravishankar, Madhur Mittal, Tanmay Bhattacharjee, Sushant Waydande, Amartya Ray, Chaitanya Sharma and Aryann Bhowmik. The others who deliver fine performances are Rishabh Joshi (Rahim’s son Hakim), Vijay Maurya (Indian commentator Ramesh), Abhilash Thapliyal (Indian commentator Dev), Pacitra Sarkar (Bengal team coach Tapan Bose) and Arvinder Singh Bhati (Sondhi; who slams Indonesia).

Maidaan music and other technical aspects:
A R Rahman’s music is soulful but is not of chartbuster variety. ‘Jaane Do’, however, turns out to be highly touching and smartly inserted in a very important moment. A R Rahman’s singing is praiseworthy. The other song that works is ‘Team India Hum’. ‘Mirza’, ‘Ranga Ranga’ and ‘Dil Nahi Todenge’ don’t register. A R Rahman’s background score adds to the tension and exhilaration.

Tushar Kanti Ray’s cinematography is very good while Fyodor Lyass’s cinematography for sports scenes is outstanding. The sports scenes are shot in such a manner that viewers will get sucked into the goings-on. Shalini Sharma Chakravarty’s make-up and hair design and Kirti Kolwankar and Maria Tharakan’s costumes are authentic. Khyatee Mohan Kanchan’s production design is detailed. Redefine’s VFX is splendid. It’ll be difficult to guess for a layman that the football match scenes are filmed not in Melbourne, Rome or Jakarta but in Madh Island! Dev Rao Jadhav’s editing could have been slicker in the first half. But it gives no reason for complaint in the second half. Shahnawaz Mosani’s editing for sports scenes is razor-sharp.

Maidaan Movie Conclusion:
On the whole, MAIDAAN is one of the finest sports-based films of Bollywood that rests on captivating drama, strong emotions, clapworthy moments, and a National Award-worthy performance by Ajay Devgn. At the box office, it might take a slow start but has the potential to show a strong jump over its extended weekend due to positive word of mouth, especially in urban centres, and thus emerge victorious at the box office. Recommended!

Ben Jacoby’s story is imaginative as it tells us about the events before the ones shown in THE OMEN [1976]. Tim Smith, Arkasha Stevenson and Keith Thomas’ screenplay is a bit slow and dragging. But the writers have peppered the narrative with a lot of spooky moments, which will give viewers their money’s worth. The dialogues are normal.

Arkasha Stevenson’s direction is decent. She works hard on the setting and making sure the orphanage seems like a place that is hiding a dark secret. The few scenes that stand out are the opening sequence, Margaret’s experience at the dance club, Sister Anjelica’s death, Margaret learning the truth and Margaret being isolated. Two scenes are similar to the ones in THE OMEN, probably as a homage of sorts. There’s a twist in the second half, which is unexpected.

On the flipside, the 123-minute-long film could have been shorter. Certain things happen at convenience – it’s bewildering how Margaret managed to escape, especially the night before June 6. A few scenes are very disturbing and are not for the faint-hearted. Though the makers have tried their best to ensure that one doesn’t need to see THE OMEN to understand this film, a few aspects might still go bouncer. Moreover, there’s a limited fan base for THE OMEN in India, especially among the youth since the classic flick was released nearly 48 years ago. This is also a reason why the buzz is hardly there for THE FIRST OMEN.

The First Omen Movie Performances:
Nell Tiger Free plays the lead role with aplomb. She is effortless in some of the challenging scenes, especially the ones in the second half. Ralph Ineson lends able support. Nicole Sorace leaves a huge mark, especially with her eyes. Bill Nighy is dependable. Sônia Braga underplays her part and doesn’t go overboard while essaying a negative role. Maria Caballero is fair. Ishtar Currie Wilson, Tawfeek Barhom as Father Gabriel and Andrea Arcangeli (Paolo) leave a mark.

The First Omen music and other technical aspects:
Mark Korven’s background score is effective and is not loud, as it usually happens in such films. Aaron Morton’s cinematography is simple. Paco Delgado’s costumes are realistic. The production design is reminiscent of the bygone era. The action is gory to another level. Bob Murawski and Amy E Duddleston’s editing is satisfactory but the film could have been shorter by 10 minutes.

The First Omen Movie Conclusion:
On the whole, THE FIRST OMEN has its share of spooky and unexpected moments. But due to disturbing scenes and very limited buzz, it will face a tough time in India. It’ll have a shortened run due to the release of BADE MIYAN CHOTE MIYAN and MAIDAAN next Wednesday, which will also prove detrimental to its lifetime collections.
